What is “TMD”?
TMD, or temporomandibular dysfunction, is a group of maladies that affect the temporomandibular joint as well as the associated muscles of the jaw, face and neck. Problems with your jaw joint can produce many symptoms that do not appear to be related to the joint including, but not limited to: headaches, clicking jaw joints, shoulder and face pain.

What are the symptoms?
The symptoms of TMD can include one or more of the following:
- Headaches over the eye, in the temples, behind the eyes and at the base of the skull
- Generalized face pain as well as more specific pain directly in front of the ears
- Ear symptoms including ringing, buzzing, congestion and pain
- Clicking or grating noises of the joint, as well as neck and shoulder pain
- Locking or pain in the joint itself
- Grinding your teeth at night and worn down teeth
- Your teeth not touching when you bite down
